Vincent Nogueira visits Philadelphia

No, he’s not coming back.

File this one under “things we didn’t expect to see”: former Philadelphia Union midfielder Vincent Nogueira paid a visit to his old club today, stopping by the team’s Power Training Complex in Chester ahead of the Union’s match tomorrow against the New York Red Bulls. Union forward Charlie Davies posted a selfie of him and his former teammate at FC Sochaux on his Instagram today, which was tweeted out by SBI’s Joe Tansey (among others).

Nogueira is back to visit almost exactly a year after his sudden departure to France for personal reasons. He signed with RC Strasbourg a week later and helped them gain promotion to Ligue 1.

Any fan getting their hopes up of a return by the former Union player really should not. The Union have moved on, and with Alejandro Bedoya, Haris Medunjanin, and Derrick Jones already fighting for minutes in a crowded midfield, Nogueira would have no place on the roster.

Still, it’s always cool seeing a familiar face. We wish Vincent the best in Ligue 1 this year.
