Halftime report: Real Salt Lake 1, Philadelphia Union 0

Real Salt Lake capitalizes on a defensive blunder by the Philadelphia Union to lead 1-0 after 45 minutes.

The Philadelphia Union was able to keep up with Real Salt Lake physically, however a defensive lapse sees them down 1-0 at the half.

The first good chance of the game cane at about seven minutes in when Joao Plata shot from distance, but Andre Blake was able to push it wide. In the eleventh minute, Jack Elliott got his head on a corner kick, however it hit off of the crossbar and out of danger. Plata had another good shot on goal in the fifteenth minute but Blake again came up big. Albert Rusnak had a look at goal a minute later but sent his shot well high.

In the seventeenth minute, the Union were able to send another long ball over the top, this time to Fafa Picault. Picault drew Nick Rimando well out of his goal and shot. Rimando made the stop, but the ball continued past him on goal. Picault nudged the ball onward but Aaron Maund made a fantastic effort to keep the ball out.

Luis Silva was left alone in the box in the 20th and put a shot directly on goal, but Andre Blake made a fantastic save to keep the match scoreless.

In the 28th minute, Chris Pontius had a good shot on goal that forced Rimando to make a save on. Disaster struck at the 37th minute when Joao Plata slipped a ball through to Jefferson Savarino, who gave it back to Plata who nailed it.

Replay showed that both Ray Gaddis and Fabinho kept Savarino onside on the initial pass through, and RSL was up 1-0 going into the half.
