Lehigh Valley United opened their Premier Development League season with a 3-1 loss to Reading United on the road on Saturday with a number of familiar names in the lineup.
Starting goalkeeper Logan Keys (Whitehall, Pa.) and starting forward Brandon Levano (Allentown, Pa.) both spent time in the Philadelphia Union Academy. So did University of Virginia forward Leon Maric (Gilbertsville, Pa.), who came off the bench to play 33 minutes, and two others who are rostered this season for the team: Garrett Keys and Cameron Keys, who will both be entering their third season at La Salle this fall.
Continental FC also has a strong presence on the squad.
Alum Chad Poarch (Middletown, Del.) scored a goal off the bench in the 47th minute on Saturday and Maric played for the local club as well. Continental alums Vincent Biche (Lansdowne, Pa.), Keelby Espinola (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) are also on the team roster.
Former Lehigh Valley United youth fill out the roster with Mark Forrest, Mickey George, Logan Keys and Collin Muller having all played for the club prior to college. Local college programs are all well represented, including Alvernia, East Stroudsburg, Lehigh, Lycoming, Philadelphia University, La Salle all represented either by current or former players.
