They may have missed out on playing for the main prize at the Generation adidas Cup, but the Philadelphia Union U16 team could still be in play for the Premier Division trophy if they are able to get by Tigres UANL in a semifinal match today.
The Union will take on the Mexican youth team at 4 p.m. eastern time today at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas in a game that will be streamed live on the MLS YouTube page. New York City FC and San Jose Earthquakes will contest the other Premier Division semifinal at 2:15 p.m. eastern.
After falling short of advancing to the Champions Division in two rounds of regional qualifiers, the Union swept their finals group with wins over New England Revolution, C.F. Monterrey and Chicago Fire to book a spot in the semifinals today. They’ve done so by outscoring opponents 11-3 with midfielder Brenden Aaronson’s four goals leading the way.
The semifinals of the Champions Division will also be played today with the lone MLS team left, New York Red Bulls, taking on Flamengo at 8:15 p.m. eastern and two-time defending champs River Plate taking on Independent del Valle at 6:30 p.m. Both games will also be streamed live.
