A highly-ranked youth prospect from Canada suited up for Bethlehem Steel in a friendly against Harrisburg City Islanders at YSC Sports on Thursday.

Jacob Shaffelburg checked into the game in the 70th minute for fellow countryman Chris Nanco. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Port Williams, Nova Scotia native has starred the past two seasons at the Berkshire School in Massachusetts, a prestigious boarding school and soccer powerhouse where New York City FC midfielder Jack Harrison and recent New York Red Bulls first-round draft pick Zeiko Lewis both played.

The 15-year-old also participated in squash and track and field at the school, played club soccer for GPS Black Rock FC and won a U.S. Club Soccer U16 national championship last summer with Manhattan SC. He scored both goals in the final, a 2-1 win over Chicago Sockers FC.

A midfielder, Shaffelburg is ranked fifth in the Northeast in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s most recent regional rankings for the class of 2019.
