The Philadelphia Union put together a solid performance against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday night, bringing home their first points from British Columbia since July of 2013. We asked our readers to rate the players on a scale of one through ten, and the results are in.
This week’s Player of the Week honor (since it was in Canada, was it an honour?) goes to goalkeeper Andre Blake. His 7.88 rating from the fans was far and away the best of all of the players. whoscored.com however disagreed, giving Blake a rather pedestrian 6.9 - tying him for sixth with Richie Marquez and Haris Medunjanin. The fans agreed with whoscored however on Marquez and Medunjanin, giving them a 6.88 and 6.85 respectively. The fans and whoscored also agreed on the superb play of Derrick Jones, as the fans gave him a 7.34 rating while whoscored rated him at a 7.3. The fans ratings had Jones in second place, while he only managed third with whoscored.
whoscored had a tie for their first place. Both Chris Pontius and Oguchi Onyewu were rated at a 7.6 by the machines, however they only earned a 6.33 and 6.67 respectively from the fans. The reason for the high rating for Pontius comes from leading the team with three shots and nine aerial duels won, while Onyewu gets marks for his three tackles, four interceptions, and seven clearances.
Both the fans had CJ Sapong rated at the bottom of the pack, with the fans giving him a 5.18 while whoscored rated him at a 5.9. Vancouver’s defense was able to keep him and Jay Simpson (5.52 from the fans and 6.4 from whoscored) in check.
Thanks to everyone who participated in last week’s survey! Here are the full results. We look forward to doing this again after tomorrow’s match!
