Seth Kuhn broke open a scoreless tie with his second goal of the tournament and the Philadelphia Union U16 offense exploded for three more second half goals to pick up a crucial three points in the second leg of Generation adidas Cup qualifying on Friday.
Playing against Orlando City in need of a win, the Union U16s came through with a dominant second half performance after going into the break 0-0.
Chad Letts doubled the lead in the 70th minute, Issa Rayyan made it 3-0 three minutes later and, after Orlando had pulled back a goal, Iverson Brisma found Jason Aoyama with a cross in the 77th minute to make it 4-1 to the boys in blue.
Rayyan’s goal was his fourth of the competition while Letts found the back of the net for the third time and Aoyama picked up his first.
The Union moved into second place in the East Regional standings with the victory but have only one game remaining against D.C. United on Monday at 11:30 a.m.
New York Red Bulls are even with the Union on points with eight after a 2-2 draw and penalty kick win (one additional point) over D.C. United but have two games remaining.
In the other game on Friday at the University of Central Florida, Atlanta United continued their dominance with a 3-1 win over New York City FC. Atlanta remained unbeaten and on top of the table with 14 points and one game left to play in its first ever appearance in the annual U17 tournament.
The top two teams in the standings will advance to the GA Cup finals in Frisco, Texas, in April. The top two third place teams in the three regionals will also advance.
