Philadelphia Union Academy midfielder Dawson McCartney announced his verbal commitment to Dartmouth on Twitter on Saturday.

The Voorhees, New Jersey native will be joining teammate Tiger Graham (who is spending a post-grad year with the Academy) and former Union Academy forward Matt Greer at the Ivy League school next fall.

U18 head coach and Bethlehem Steel FC assistant Jeff Cook coached the Big Green from 2001-2013.

McCartney scored a pair of goals, one a game-winner, in 25 appearances and 18 starts for the U18s last season. He had a goal in 25 appearances for the U16s the two previous seasons.

Six other U18 players have verbally committed to join Division 1 programs next fall: defenders Matthew Real and Mark McKenzie have committed to Wake Forest, defender Andrew Aprahamian to Stanford, goalkeeper Matthew Freese to Harvard, defender Evan Godfrey to Liberty and midfielder Kalil ElMedkhar to Kentucky.

Continental FC Delco goalkeeper Aaron Schwartz (Berwyn, Pa.) is one five other players who have verbally committed to Dartmouth for fall 2017.
