Philadelphia Union Academy and Bethlehem Steel FC defender Matthew Real has been called up to the United States U18 team for a tournament in the Czech Republic.

Real (Drexel Hill, Pa.) was one of 20 players - all born in 1999 - called into the team by head coach Omid Namazi for the Vaclav Jezek Tournament.

Training gets underway Wednesday, but the U.S. opens tournament play against Slovakia on August 16 and play Hungary on August 17 and Russia on August 19 to close out group play.

Real has been a regular this year in Namazi’s squad, adding stamps to his passport for Mexico in May, Argentina in March and domestic training camps in April and January.

The Wake Forest verbal ommit is one of six players from Major League Soccer academies in the team - New England Revolution defender Daniel Jones and forward Justin Rennicks; San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Andrew Paoli and FC Dallas midfielders Paxton Pomykal and Brandon Servania are the others.
