Former Union Academy trio playing for U19 national title

Three players who aged out of the Philadelphia Union Academy proving critical to FC Florida success.

Former Union Academy teammates John Schroeder, Zach Perez, and Mo Conde will be playing for a U19 national title this week in Frisco, Texas, with the Palm Beach, Florida-based club FC Florida.

All three players were teammates on the Philadelphia Union Academy U18 team in 2014-15.

Mo Conde was second on the U18 team in scoring in 2014-15 with seven goals and just played for Reading United AC in their 4-1 loss to Ocean City in the PDL Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday. He’ll be a redshirt freshman at NAIA school the University of Mobile this fall.

Schroeder was the starting right back for the U18s, playing in 23 games in 2014-15 and scoring a goal. He’ll be a sophomore at the University of Delaware this fall.

Perez started on the opposite flank in 2014-15, appearing in 24 games for the U18s and also had a goal. He’ll be in his second season with St. John’s this fall.

Schroeder and Conde were also on the U18 team together for the 2013-14 season, the first for the Union Academy in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

FC Florida’s 96/97 Elite team will kick off their quest for a national championship at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships on Tuesday against Chicago Celtic and play Smithtown Kickers on Wednesday and FC Golden State on Thursday.

Their first match will be streamed live at championships.usyouthsoccer.org.

The team also features Campbell star Bradley Farias, who was second in Division I in scoring last season with 15 goals.
