The Union weren't thinking about their big matchup in Montreal this Saturday. The team battled hard for 120 minutes but didn't advance to the Open Cup semifinals as New England bested them in penalties 4-2, after a 1-1 draw. The Union showed a lot of the heart and the never-give-up attitude fans have come to appreciate as Fabian Herbers dramatically tied the score in the 90th minute. However, keeper Brand Knighton made clutch saves down the stretch and during the penalty shootout to send the Union home.
