Keegan Rosenberry is having quite the week. Not only was he officially named to the MLS All-Star roster that will face off against English giants Arsenal, but he also has retained the top spot in the Rookie Rankings. In the column by MLSsoccer.com’s Ben Couch, the Philadelphia Union’s rookie right back is listed as the number one rookie in MLS, ahead of midfielder Jack Harrison of New York City FC and the Seattle Sounders’ forward Jordan Morris, who were listed second and third respectively.
Rounding out the top five were two Chicago Fire defenders, Jonathan Campbell and Brandon Vincent. Also getting votes were Toronto FC’s Tsubasa Endoh and the New England Revolution’s Michael Salazar.
While Couch’s column may have no effect on the outcome of the Rookie of the Year voting, it is good to see Rosenberry consistently listed at the top of a very good rookie class - especially over players in glamour positions on marquee teams. If he - and by extension the Union - can maintain this run of form, it’d be surprising to not see him at least shortlisted when it’s time to hand out the award.
