The Philadelphia Union didn't win, but they also weren't terrible in defeat either. Roland Alberg's red card aside, the Union had some pretty solid performances from their players. But who was the most valuable player this week? As usual I posed that question to the staff here at Brotherly Game to see what they had to say.
Andrew Stoltzfus: CJ Sapong. Deserves a lot of credit for the hard work he put in up top by himself. Didn't get a lot of help even before the red card. The Sebastien Le Toux goal was purely through an athletic play by him.
John Rossi: Vincent Nogueira. He was really on his game. Fantastic in possession.
Jared Young: Despite being caught high on the second goal I give it to Andre Blake. Too many key saves to keep this team in it.
Barry Evans: Nogueira for me. In the first 30 minutes when the Union dominated really he was outstanding in particular. He hardly put a foot wrong all night and had an Ilsinho like back heel pass too.
Matt Ralph: Nogueira's passing, vision and creativity was on point all nght.
Alex Klein: Andre Blake had another strong game with some highlight reel saves, he kept the Union in the game.
Doug Gobrecht: Andre Blake is a majority of the fault in the second (and game winning goal) but he's the MVP despite that. He truly amazes me each week with his consistency in goal and the amount of highlight reel saves he makes.
Drew Gobrecht: I'm going to give it to Blake as well, primarily because no one stood out to me and Blake has been the most consistently good this season.
Chris Allen: I'd give it to Blake, despite being out of position on the Jordan Morris goal. He made so many great saves and kept us in the game until the end.
It's hard to argue against any of these candidates really, but the majority rules.
Congratulations Andre on being the Brotherly Game Week 6 MVP!
