PCK: Optimism

A new feeling is sweeping the Union faithful.

Optimism: [op-tuh-miz-uh m] noun 1. a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.

I had been feeling this strange sensation over the last few weeks about the Philadelphia Union.  At first I thought it was just that I had had some amazing guacamole during the game.  But as the feeling lingered, I knew it had to be something more.  Dictionary.com defined it for me and I have listed it above.  I am optimistic about the U.  To wit: we lost last week but I felt we played rather well and could bounce back; Warren Creavalle got a red card and was unable to start this week but I was confident in the replacements; Ilsinho got hurt but I felt we could still win even while missing his creativity.  These thoughts are the thoughts of a fan with a winning team.  I am just now realizing that this may just be what the Union are this year.  My optimism puts me in a positive mood.  Let’s see how the Union’s victory over Orlando City SC feels as a sonnet…

The Union back at home their game to play
Kaka and all his men hoped for some points
But Philly got things started right away
As CJ’s goal started to rock the joint
Then Winter, who this game would earn his wage,
Would score to tie the game at one a piece
From there the goalies took the center stage
With saves assuring no scores did increase
But there in minute ninety was a blast
Barnetta’s kick soared o’er the wall of men
So Bendik only watched the ball go past
And Philly found themselves up one again
In stoppage Winter’s volley tried to sneak
But Andre Blake’d for our Save of the Week
