The Philadelphia Union Academy didn’t get to play for any hardware, but they finished their trip to Frisco, Texas for the 2016 Generation adidas Cup on a high note with a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
A first half goal from Darius Lewis was all the offense the Union needed to pick up their second win of the trip and finish with a 2-1-2 record after failing to advance out of the group in the Premier Division bracket of the competition.
Tomas Romero recorded the third clean sheet of the trip for the Union after regular starter Carlos dos Santos picked up clean sheets in matches against Colorado Rapids and Houston Dynamo. Matthew Real, Evan Godfrey, Ben Ofeimu and Patrick Murphy started on the back line in front of Romero.
The goal scorer, Lewis, started the match on the left wing with Kalil ElMedkhar up top and Issa Rayyan on the right wing. Anthony Fontana wore the captain’s armband in the middle of the field with Justin McMaster and Omar Ayala started as holding midfielder.
Justin Bloyou, Isaiah Holquist, Seth Kuhn and Brandon Golden subbed in off the bench.
