Harrisburg City Islanders release 2016 roster

A good mix of familiar faces and new talent bring hope to Harrisburg.

Reading United AC vs. Harrisburg City Islanders

The Harrisburg City Islanders released their roster yesterday at a press conference at FNB Field in Harrisburg - their home for ten of their matches in 2016. The Islanders roster as released had just 18 players on it, so there may still be more signings coming.

Nick Noble - GK: With Harrisburg since 2012, Noble has spent time with the Chicago Fire of MLS and Ljungskile SK in the Swedish Superettan (First Division) before coming to Harrisburg. Last season he played in 28 games, compiling a 1.86 goals against average and keeping 9 clean sheets.

Youssef Naciri - MF: Naciri is one of the new faces with the Islanders. The Moroccan played college soccer at Christian Brothers University, contributing a goal and three assists during his junior year.

Shane Johnson - CB: Johnson is returning to Harrisburg, however he's officially a member of the club now. He was originally loaned by the Richmond Kickers in 2014, spending the end of 2014 and all of 2015 with HCI before officially signing earlier this month. Johnson played in 22 games for Harrisburg in 2015.

Bobby Warshaw - CDM: Easily the biggest signing during the offseason, Warshaw returns to his native Central Pennsylvania to play with Harrisburg. Warshaw was the 17th pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, and spent a year and a half with FC Dallas before going on loan to Ängelholms FF in the Superettan. He also spent time with GAIS in the Superettan, Bærum and Hønefoss in the Norwegian First Division before heading back to the United States to play with HCI.

Josh Hughes - MF: Hughes was picked up on a free transfer from the Atlanta Silverbacks during the offseason. He played in 13 games in the NASL's Fall Season, seeing time at central defensive midfielder, right back, and left wing.

Jose Barril - LW: Barril started his career with Real Madrid, coming up through their youth system and playing on their (now defunct) Real Madrid C team in the Spanish Tercera Division. He joined Harrisburg in 2014, and last season played in 28 games and contributing three goals and two assists.

Garret Pettis - ST: Pettis has been with the Islanders since graduating from Lipscomb University in 2012. A native of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania Pettis played in 25 games in 2015, scoring two goals - both of which against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Paul Wilson - MF: The 22 year old Wilson joins the club from Portmore United Football Club in his native Jamaica, where he started with their Under-15 team. He has also represented Jamaica at the U17, U20, and U23 levels. He signed a two year deal with HCI earlier this month.

Matthew Bolduc - FW: Bolduc comes to Harrisburg from the University of Massachusetts, where in 2013 he played in 16 games.

Brett Jankouskas - FW: Jankouskas played in 25 games in 2015, scoring six goals - including the lone Islanders goal in Harrisburg's US Open Cup defeat to the Rochester Rhinos.

Darvin Ebanks - DF: Another new signing by the club, Ebanks was a college standout with the University of North Carolina and spent last season with Georgia Revolution of the NPSL.

Danny DiPrima - CDM: Another Central Pennsylvania (Dillsburg) product, DiPrima has been with HCI since 2014. Last season, he played in 15 games and scored one goal, however he did score a goal in the USL Playoffs in 2014.

Jamie Thomas - LB: Thomas spent all of 2015 with New York Red Bulls II, where he played in 25 total games and contributed two assists.

Aaron Wheeler - ST: A name that should be familiar to Philadelphia Union fans, Wheeler was picked up from Finland's KooTeePee in 2013 and played in 25 games for Philadelphia. Perhaps most (in)famous for a stint at center back with the Union, Wheeler played with the Wilmington Hammerheads in the NASL before coming back to HCI at the beginning of the month.

Cardel Benbow - CF: Benbow joined the Islanders in 2015 from Waterhouse FC in his native Jamaica, where he played in the CONCACAF Champions League in a match against D.C. United. He played in 19 matches for Harrisburg last season, scoring two goals and contributing an assist. He also made an appearance for the Jamaican National Team in 2014 against Japan.

Chris Hill - MF/FW: The native of Farmingdale, New Jersey just signed with Harrisburg, with the announcement coming at the press conference. Hill played his college ball for Villanova.

Craig Foster - CF: Foster was loaned to Harrisburg from Reno FC in Jamaica last season, and like Shane Johnson he officially signed with the club in the offseason. Foster was the club's best player last season, scoring eight goals in just 13 games. He also contributed two assists. Foster has also spent time playing for clubs in Sweden and Finland.

Dante Leverock - CB: Leverock is entering his second season with HCI. In 2015, he scored three goals and contributed an assist in 23 games for the Islanders. He also represents his native Bermuda on their national team.
