Former Philadelphia Union Academy U18 forward Spencer Reinford is transferring from the NAIA school where he won a national championship in December to a Division 1 program that was in the top 10 of rankings for the better part of the 2015 season.
Reinford, a member of the U18 team in 2013-14, scored five goals and three assists coming mostly off the bench as a redshirt freshman in Rio Grande's national championship season. He'll enter Coastal Carolina as a rising junior in the fall.
The 6-foot-4 forward is one of eight transfers head coach Shaun Docking has added for the spring semester. The Chanticleers (13-3-4) were ranked as high as No. 4 in the coach's poll in 2015 and finished the season with ranked No. 21 in the final NCAA RPI after losing to North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
A native of McAlisterville, Pa. who attended East Juniata High School, Reinford scored three goals in 20 appearances and three starts for the Union Academy U18 team in their first season in the U.S. Development Academy in 2013-14.
