December is the season for the holidays and MLS Drafts. After yesterday’s Expansion Draft, today the list of names for the upcoming Waiver Draft was released by the league. The Waiver Draft will be held today at 3:00 PM, and the list of players is in the link above. From the press release, “The Waiver Draft will consist of players who are not eligible for Re-Entry or Free Agency and are either out of contract and have not been issued a Genuine Offer or have not had their 2017 options exercised.”
The Philadelphia Union has listed the rights to five players in the Waiver Draft. Goalkeeper Matt Jones and center back Anderson Conceicao - both of who are technically still on loan until the end of the year - are available, as are left back Taylor Washington and central midfielders Cole Missimo and Walter Restrepo.
The Union will be selecting ninth, and while there isn’t much in the Waiver Draft . The only time the Union picked up someone in the Waiver Draft was when they grabbed Nizar Khalfan back in 2011.
