Bethlehem Steel announced today the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Samir Badr from the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.

Badr started his career coming through the ranks of the D.C. United youth system before spending some time with FC Porto in Portugal. He has also made three appearances with the U20 USMNT. After not seeing much playing time with a second-tier Portuguese side and an Egyptian outfit in his two years post-Porto, Badr came back to the United States.

He made his return to American soccer via the USL, playing for the Oklahoma City Energy in 2014 and most recently the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in 2015. He made 19 appearances in his time in the third division of American soccer, most of which came with the Oklahoma City Energy. The Fairfax, Virginia, native has drawn the interest of Brendan Burke and Badr will look to make a name for himself with the Steel starting play in the USL this season.
