Academy teams win four, draw one in weekend games

The U-18 and U-16 teams went 3-0-1 in games in New England on Saturday and Sunday and the U-14 team won 5-2 at home on Saturday.

Derrick Jones Amaniampong scored game-winning goals on Saturday and Sunday to lead the Philadelphia Union Academy U-18 team to victories over FC Boston Bolts and New England Revolution.

The U-18 team won both games 2-0.

Jones came off the bench in the second half of the game at Harvard University on Saturday and delivered the game-winner in the 72nd minute. Alexander Soto added a goal in the 87th minute.

Jones opened the scoring against New England Revolution at Medway High School on Sunday in the 20th minute and Tiger Graham added a goal in the 47th minute.

U-16s

Academy newcomer Issa Rayyan, who joined the Union after scoring 16 goals for Vardar Academy's U-14 team in Michigan last season, opened his Union Academy scoring account in the 75th minute with a goal to lift the U-16 team to a 1-0 victory over FC Boston Bolts on Saturday.

The U-16s played to a scoreless draw with New England Revolution in a rematch of last season's Development Academy playoff quarterfinal in Medway High School on Sunday.

U-14s

The U-14 team scored four or more goals for the third straight match in a 5-2 win over NJCSA at YSC Sports on Saturday.

Michael Pellegrino opened the scoring with his second of the season in the 16th minute and Jack de Vries and Jason Aoyama both scored their second goals of the season in the 18th and 28th minutes to lead the U-14s to a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Leading scorer Michael McKeown scored in the 72nd minute and added his seventh goal of the season two minutes later.
