Union Academy in College: Season kicks off tonight

The Division I college soccer season kicks off tonight with games involving dozens of Union Academy alumni, some who will suit up in their first official games.

The Philadelphia Union Academy third season in the Development Academy kicks off this weekend with the U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams hosting Players Development Academy at YSC this Sunday.

Kick-off of the Division I college soccer season begins in earnest tonight with 91 games, many involving alumni of the Philadelphia Union Academy.

Freshman forward Sebastian Elney and his Maryland Terps are in Bloomington today to play the 2013 national champions Notre Dame, where sophomore defender Patrick Berneski plays while freshman midfielder Sean Wilson, freshman defender Will Campbell and junior Colton Storm and the North Carolina Tar Heels will host FIU.

Freshman midfielder Morgan Hackworth and the Syracuse Orange are on the road at Hofstra, freshman Zach Zandi and the Villanova Wildcats visit Albany and freshman defender John Schroeder, sophomore transfer Ryan Talbot and Delaware host Central Arkansas in Newark tonight.

In other games tonight involving recent Academy alumni, Garrett Keys, Cameron Keys and La Salle visit Bucknell, Zach Perez and Rutgers host Siena, Brandon Levano and Loyola host St. Francis (Pa.), Oliver Calvo, senior Shane Campbell and Louisville host William & Mary and Nicholas Jachwak, senior Jordan Martinelli and Temple visit Manhattan.

UMBC, where senior Darius Madison is reportedly now playing after being kicked off Virginia's team, host Fairfield. Other games tonight involving Academy alumni include sophomore Doyle Tuvesson and Lehigh hosting Fairleigh Dickinson, seniors Keegan Rosenberry and Melvin Snoh and junior Brett Campbell and Georgetown visiting Florida Gulf Coast, junior Billy McConnell and Indiana hosting St. John's, junior Andrew Herr and Michigan State visiting Portland, junior Todd Pratzner and Xavier hosting Eastern Illinois and junior Connor Maloney, senior Quincy Thomas and Memphis hosting UAB and Penn State hosting San Francisco.
