As if the 3-0 win against Portland, the first in the series history for the Union, wasn't enough good news for the week. The praise keeps rolling in as the Union have began rising in various power rankings at mlssoccer.com, ESPN FC, and Bleacher Report.
The big win was enough to earn Jim Curtin a spot along side Cristian Maidana and Vincent Nogueira in this week's mlssoccer.com Team of the Week. The website cites the reason for his inclusion as his team "steamrolled a hot Portland Timbers side as Maidana and Nogueira looked like superstars for the Union."
Curtin has shown a great deal of loyalty to his first team players despite the rocky start to the season and lack of form and results. Andrew Wenger finally rewarded Curtin with a goal, and Nogueira is starting to push forward and add to the attack, which Curtin has hinted at wanting for some time now.
This is the second time that Curtin has been featured in the Team of the Week this season. The previous occasion was after the Union's first win at Red Bull Arena and it also was with two Union players, Fabio Alves and Brian Sylvestre.
