CJ Sapong is lined up alongside former teammate Kei Kamara in this week's MLS Team of the Week. Both players have enjoyed excellent seasons with their new clubs, finding ways to facilitate play and score goals from the center forward position.
It is worth noting that Sapong beat out a number of forwards who scored multiple times this week for his spot on the team. Portland's Fanendo Adi notched a brace in their Cascadia Cup clash with the Seattle Sounders, but still could not displace Sapong. This is why:
With Fernando Aristeguieta's status with the club still in question, CJ Sapong might be in line to retain his role at least until the end of the season. Even if the Venezuelan joins the club on a permanent basis, Sapong could still see prime minutes either on the wing or next to Aristeguieta in a two-forward formation.
