A report in French-language Afrik-sport indicates that the end to Rais M'Bolhi's tenure as MLS' highest-paid goalkeeper is almost upon us. The report quotes Antalyaspor club president Golkan Gencer as saying that "The best goalkeeper in the last World Cup will be with us next season." He goes on to name M'Bolhi and promises "he won't be the only star who will join the team." This comes on the heels of Antalyaspor signing "an agreement" with Samuel Eto'o for €4 million and chasing recent Querétaro departee Ronaldinho as well (sorry Union Hulk).
With the recent reports of the Union being in dire financial straits, this news - if it comes to fruition - will be a massive relief. The Union will get a good chunk of salary cap money back, an international slot (which could be used or sold if necessary), and perhaps a transfer fee. It will also bring this saga to a merciful end.
Will it actually happen though? Afrik is apparently pretty reliable, but it is silly season. Let's not get our hopes up too high. Cautious optimism.
