This is the first year in U.S Open. Cup history that there will be a set bracket from the round of 16, and this morning at 11 AM, the bracket was announced. The Philadelphia Union's next opponent in the U.S. Open Cup will be D.C. United and they will face off at PPL Park on June 30th at 7:00 PM. Should the Union win, they will be traveling to New York to play either the Red Bulls or Cosmos. Should the Union advance past the Red Bulls or Cosmos, they will host the semi finals against the winner of the South bracket (Columbus, Charlotte, Chicago or Orlando).
Along with the draw, US Soccer announced that there will be a more options for amateur teams to compete in the U.S. Open Cup next year. This will be made possible by US Soccer as they are taking a more active role in the process of qualification than they have in the past. There will be two new tracks for qualification based on the size of teams. For leagues like the PDL and NPSL, spots will be earned based on how teams do during league play. For leagues or clubs like USASA, USSSA or the US Soccer Clubs they will only need to sign up by August 5th. With these changes, amateur and club teams will need to play in a qualification tournament to qualify for a spot in the actual tournament.
Full results of the Round of 16 draw for the 2015 US Open Cup will be posted on US Soccer's website shortly.
