The Union Academy will be competing in the Development Academy Playoffs in both the U-17/18 and U-15/16 age groups June 23-26 at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. On Wednesday, they found out what teams they will be playing.
The U-16s, the number two overall seed, were drawn into Group F with Houston Dynamo, Weston FC and Everton Westchester. They'll play Everton FC Westchester on June 23 at 2:30 p.m., Weston FC on June 24 at 2:30 p.m. and Houston Dynamo, which hasn't lost a match since March, on June 26 at 11:15 a.m.
The U-18s, which made the playoffs as a wild card, were drawn into Group E as a four seed with Montreal Impact FC, Kendall SC and LA Galaxy. They'll open play June 23 at noon against Montreal Impact, which beat them 4-1 in Montreal on May 16 and play Kendall SC at noon on June 24 and LA Galaxy at 9 a.m. on June 26.
There are eight groups of four for each age level. The winner of each group will advance to a single-game knockout round played at the higher seed's home facility. The knockout round games will be played July 7 for the U-18s and July 8 for the U-16s.
The four winners will advance to the Academy Championships on July 16 in Carson, California. The finals for each age group will be played July 18. Players Development Academy won the U-17/18 championship last season and LA Galaxy the U-15/16 championship.
Both teams failed to advance out of group play last season, posting identical 0-2-1 records in group play.
