Academy teams win one, lose two to PDA

The U-16 team picked up another win, but the U-18 and U-14 teams lost to PDA over the weekend.

James Murphy's goal gave Players Development Academy a 3-2 victory over the Union U-18s on Saturday. Murphy, who has trained with the Philadelphia Union senior team and was on the Union Academy team that won the Generation Adidas Cup in 2012, scored the winner in the 70th minute. Former Union Academy defender Chris Gomez also played in the game for PDA.

The Union had a 2-1 lead in the second half after goals from Yosef Samuel and Kevin Carvalho canceled out a 28th minute strike from Chaz Burnett. But Juan Rivero equalized for PDA in the 53rd minute and Murphy found the winner to give PDA breathing room ahead of the Union in the Atlantic Division standings.

PDA is in third place with 44 points and the Union are in fourth place with 36 points and a game in hand.

Derrick Jones Amaniampong, Conor Bradley, Shane Bradley, Oliver Calvo, Will Campbell, Kevin Carvalho, Cameron Keys, Zach Perez, Yosef Samuel, Auston Trusty and Sean Wilson were in the starting XI. Mohamed Conde (80'), Sebastian Elney (60'), Frederick Gil (46') and John Schroeder (88') came off the bench.

The U-18s have a weekend off before traveling to Montreal to take on Montreal Impact on May 16 at 11 a.m.

U-16s

Alexander Soto scored the winner in the 32nd minute and Justin McMaster had a second half hat trick after subbing in in the 56th minute to lead the U-16s to a 4-0 win over PDA.

PDA defender Schuyler Fuchsman was sent off with a second yellow in the game.

Andrew Aprahamian, Robert Campbell, Lamine Conte, Joseph DeZart, Tiger Graham, Mark McKenzie, Josue Monge, Jerren Nixon, Jack Skahan and Alexander Soto started the game. Anthony Fontana (56'), Evan Godfrey (79'), Dawson McCartney (66') and Raheem Taylor-Parkes (56') also came into the game off the bench.

The win put the Union five points ahead of New York Red Bulls in the Atlantic Division standings. The Red Bulls have two games in hand.

The U-16s have a weekend off before traveling to Montreal to play the Impact on May 16 at 1:30 p.m.

U-14s

The U-14s lost to PDA 3-1 on Saturday.

The lone strike for the Union came from Aziz Saidi in the 61st minute. Joseph Moulton-Condiotti scored a brace for PDA and Oluwaola-ayo Ogunwale opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.

Brenden Aaronson, Nicholas Blacklock, Daniel Bloyou, Tanner Dail, Carlos dos Santos, Carter Emack, Kevin Escobar, Seth Kuhn, Nicholas Liddy, Michael Pellegrino and Andrew Taber started the game. Christian Contreras (10'), Giovani Jimenez (39'), Chad Letts (10'), Aziz Saidi (10'), Antek Sienkiel (23') and Cole Turner (23') came off the bench.

The U-14s host the Soccer Association of Columbia at YSC Sports on Saturday at 3 p.m.
