The Philadelphia Fury played to a hard fought loss on Saturday against the Rhode Island Oceaneers at Tom Brown Field at Washington Township High School. Phil Towler of Rhode Island scored the lone goal off a free kick that went past Fury keeper Tetsuya Okuda in the 11' minute.
The Fury continually tried to score the equalizer throughout the entire match. Seyuda Ba and Gabriel Avans were constant threats, while Scotty McCoubrey continually created chances in the midfield.
"We need to be a little more creative, better in the offensive end," said head coach Cris Vaccaro. "We are not giving many goals up. We are staying in the game. It's all about our finishing."
The Fury now go to 6-5-2 overall record with 20 points. Meanwhile Rhode Island goes to 5-3-2 overall record with 17 points.
The Fury's next match will once again be at home at Washington Township High School next Saturday when the play Icon FC.
