Academy teams win two, lose one at Bethesda-Olney

The U-16s continued their winning ways with a game-winning penalty in extra time, the U-18s got back on track with a 2-1 win and the U-14s were shut out by Bethesda-Olney in games played Sunday.

U-18s

John Schroeder's goal in the 75th minute gave the U-18s a lead they wouldn't relinquish Sunday afternoon in 2-1 win over Bethesda-Olney in Rockford, Maryland.

Conor Bradley opened the scoring for the Union with a goal off a header in the 40th minute. Samson Sergi pulled a goal back late for Bethesda-Olney in the 88th minute.

Shane Bradley, Oliver Calvo, Kevin Carvalho, Mohamed Conde, Sebastian Elney, Morgan Hackworth, Cameron Keys, Zach Perez and Auston Trusty were also in the starting XI. Johann Weatherly (55'), Ryan Raheem Miller (85'), Tarik Gazko (46') and Derrick Amaniampong (81') came off the bench.

The win moved the Union into fourth place in the Atlantic Division and into wild card position for the Development Academy playoffs with two games remaining. The U-18s host New York Red Bulls on Saturday at 11 a.m. at YSC Sports and DC United on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at YSC Sports.

U-16s

Anthony Fontana drew a penalty in added time and Tiger Graham converted the penalty to give the U-16s a 3-2 win over Bethesda-Olney on Sunday.

Bethesda-Olney opened the scoring with a Matthew Di Rosa goal in the 20th minute and kept the high-powered Union attack off the board until the 60th minute when Justin McMaster scored off the rebound of his own penalty kick and Jerren Nixon gave the Union their first lead two minutes later.

Jerry Zouantcha found an equalizer for Bethesda-Olney in the 80th minute that was erased by Graham's winner in added time.

Andrew Aprahamian, Justin Bajek, Robert Campbell, Lamine Conte, Joseph DeZart, Mark McKenzie, McMaster, Josue Monge, Matthew Real, Alexander Soto and Raheem Taylor-Parkes were in the starting lineup. Nixon (52'), Dawson McCartney (56'), Graham (74') and Fontana (56') came off the bench.

The win helped the U-16s keep pace with first place Red Bulls ahead of this Saturday's huge match-up at YSC Sports at 1 p.m. The Union are one point behind the division and league leaders with a 21-2-1 record.

U-14s

The U-14s were shut out in their game against Bethesda-Olney on Sunday. Aidan Rocha scored in the 14th minute and Gabe Segal added a goal in the 55th minute for the hosts.

Daniel Bloyou, Tanner Dail, Carter Emack, Seth Kuhn, Chad Letts, Nicholas Liddy, Rayshaun McGann, Michael Pellegrino, Tomas Romero, Andrew Taber and Cole Turner were in the starting XI. Blaire Barber (20'), Nicholas Blacklock (61'), Kevin Escobar (53'), Vilbert Fortulus (53'), Giovani Jimenez (61'), Aziz Saidi (13') and Fimmbarr Teah (53') came off the bench.

The U-14s host New York Red Bulls at 3 p.m. at YSC Sports on Saturday.
