Bearfight Brigade announce charity project to help Domestic Violence Center of Chester County

The first goods drive scheduled to happen on April 11 at PPL Park to benefit Domestic Violence Center of Chester County.

The Bearfight Brigade announced a charity event at the Philadelphia Union-New York City FC match on April 11 at PPL Park to benefit the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County.

The release reads as follows:

We here at the Brigade have been talking about how we can help out in the community. We spend so much time in one of the most impoverished areas in the country. It's only right that we do something to help out Chester and the surrounding community. There are so many of us in the Brigade and there's so much passion in our group, we can do a lot of good as a group with minimal individual effort. Our plan is to do three benefits/fundraisers this season. One at the beginning of the season, one at the middle, one at the end.

Our first fundraising drive will be April 11th at the New York City FC match. The first place we'd like to support is the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County. They are a program that provides housing for survivors of domestic violence. They provide:
24 Hour Hotline
Counseling Services & Safety Planning
Support Groups Legal Advocacy
Court Appearance Accompaniment
Emergency Shelter & Transitional Housing Programs
Bi-Lingual Services (Spanish & English)
Children's Programs & Counseling
Information & Referrals
Community Education & Training

(from their website) "The mission of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County is to provide intervention, education, outreach, advocacy and programs to prevent, reduce and remedy domestic violence in Chester County. The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County has been service our community since 1976. Since then, we have helped over 30,000 survivors of domestic violence."

One of their biggest needs is bedding. When one of their clients comes to stay with them, they usually bring little more than the clothes on their back. They believe that a big part of the healing process is to provide them with unused sheets and blankets to provide a safe, warm night's sleep which they may not have gotten in several weeks. They are free to keep the bedding after their stay in the shelter.

Next is cleaning supplies. They have asked for basically the full spectrum of cleaning supplies. Brooms, mops, soap, dish detergents, etc.

What we have done is gone to Target and made a gift registry so everyone knows exactly what they've asked for. We ask that when you buy something to please use the registry so the totals are updated as things are purchased. All you have to do is go to the store or to Target.com and search: First Name – Bearfight, Last Name – Brigade. If it asks you what kind of registry it is, it's a college registry. It also has their mailing address on the registry so if you want to have it shipped, it can go directly to them. Shipping is free from target.com if you spend $50, for those feeling generous.

If you can help out in any way, please do so. These women are our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, and this is happening right in our back yard.
