The Philadelphia Union have cut five players from their preseason roster, including two year veteran Aaron Wheeler, 2015 draft pick Aaron Simmons, and trialists Aodhan Quinn, Petros Kanakoudis and Navid Nasseri. Philadelphia Union technical director Chris Albright said, "We want to thank Aaron (Wheeler) for his time with the club and we wish him the best as he continues his career."
Wheeler was signed by the Union from Finnish Ykkonnen side FC KooTeePee (which is super fun to say) back in 2013. He had a turbulent run with the club, and unfortunately will most likely be remembered as John Hackworth's disastrous center back experiment. The native of Baltimore had a goal and an assist in 2013, and played a total of 888 minutes with the club.
Quinn was drafted in the Third Round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the Union but was cut last year after training camp. He spent 2014 with Orlando City SC while they were a USL PRO side. Upon the end of the 2014 season, Quinn was released by Orlando.
It is unknown what Wheeler or Simmons will do, but Nasseri and Kanakoudis will be rejoining their home clubs after being cut by the Union.
