Boluwatife Akinyode, Michael Daly and Gabe Gissie have become the second, third and fourth members of Bethlehem Steel FC side. Daly and Gissie join by way of Sacramento Republic FC, both helping lead the Republic to the USL title in 2014.
Michael Daly has the most minutes in Sacramento FC history, and the 28 year old defender from Sonoma,California will look to lead the Steel trap of a defense this coming season. Gabe Gissie is the youngest of the new signings. At just 19, the Loganton, Pennsylvania native by way of Monrovia, Liberia is in the USL record books as the youngest player to ever score a goal in USL, doing so against Oklahoma City Energy at the age of 18 years and 209 days. On top of that, Gissie played in a USL final when he was just 17, adding another element of success in USL to a brand new side that seem to be striving for a title.
Boluwatife Akinyode currently holds the title for best name in USL (citation needed) and joins Steel FC from New York Red Bulls 2. With his time at NYRB2, Akinyode helped lead the baby bulls to the USL playoffs in 2015. He started 10 of the 21 matches he played, with his first professional goal coming against Louisville City FC in September. Head coach Brendan Burke seems rightfully happy with all his new signings given that these are all guys with prior USL experience, and at least two of them are pretty good looking prospects to eventually land in Chester.
