A credible rumor has linked Sacha Kljestan to the Union, among other teams. The American midfielder has enjoyed modest success in Belgium, but it looks like Anderlecht is willing to part ways.
Kljestan would join a midfield that had a hectic 2014. Injuries and call-ups had their way with the middle unit as there was constant shuffling in the central trio. Even with Okugo gone, questions remain. Maurice Edu was signed to a permanent contract the other day, and we still wonder whether or not he'll play on the backline or a bit farther up.
The Belgium-based midfielder's signature would end all discussion. Working under the assumption that Curtin sticks with a three-man midfield, Kljestan would be the deepest of the three. Edu would remain next to Valdes in defense, and Nogueira and Maidana would assume their natural roles in the midfield.
Anderlecht does well when Kljestan starts, but that may be more a function of the other players. While Kljestan isn't a big star, he is an experienced pro and a good fit, which has been the profile of many of the Union's targets over the past year. He'd be a wonderful piece to boost an already solid midfield.
