Paid Their Dues: Farfan returns?

We once had all of the Farfans, but now we have none. Is it possible that someday soon we may again have one?

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Ex-Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Farfan has announced he has left Mexican club Cruz Azul, and has his sights set either on heading back to MLS - or to Scandinavia or Switzerland according to an mlssoccer.com report. Farfan, who left MLS a little over a year ago for Mexico City, however only wound up playing in one match for Los Cementaros. In it, he was subbed on in the 78th minute and promptly scored the equalizing goal against Pachuca. He was not played again after that, and was reportedly released in May.

If current MLS rules hold, Farfan will be subject to the Allocation Ranking since there was a transfer fee involved. If the Union use their status in the Allocation Ranking to get Sacha Klejstan, chances are very slim that Farfan would still be around if the Union wanted to acquire him. That being said, who knows what the mechanisms will be when the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is finished
