Maurice Edu named to MLS All-Star Game vs. Bayern Munich

MLS All-Star manager Caleb Porter selects Edu and two others to fill in against Bayern Munich

Today MLSSoccer.com revealed that All-Star manager Caleb Porter has selected Maurice Edu as well as D.C. United defenders Bobby Boswell and Sean Franklin to play in Wednesday's All-Star Game against Germany's Bayern Munich. Porter cited fixture congestion as the reason for replacing LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez and injury as the reason for replacing Seattle's Chad Marshall.

This is not the first time the Philadelphia Union have had players added to the MLS All-Star roster thanks to a little help - Michael Farfan was added in 2012 when Chelsea requested MLS to add more substitutes, and in that same year All-Star manager Ben Olsen selected Carlos Valdes to round out the roster. Also this year Homegrown Player Zach Pfeffer was added when Seattle Sounders' DeAndre Yedlin was moved from the HGP All-Star roster to the regular All-Star roster.

Edu has played well for the Union, arriving on loan from EPL side Stoke City on loan in January. He has three goals and two assists this season while playing both midfielder and center back roles.
