Union Academy alums Darius Madison, Shane Campbell and Colton Storm have signed on to play for the Union's Premier Development League partner Reading United this summer.
Madison, a sophomore forward from Virginia, and Campbell, a sophomore midfielder/defender who will be transferring from Penn State to Louisville ahead of the fall season, spent last summer with the club.
Storm, a freshman who plays right back for North Carolina, will join the two returners in Reading. Storm played for Reading's Super 20 squad last year.
"Men like Darius Madison and Shane Campbell have been able to maintain their academy form and fitness as they transition to the college game and vice-versa," Reading United president Art Auchenbach said in a PDL news release. "Colton Storm represents the next phase of our growth as he was instrumental to our Super 20 squad’s success last year. We are proud to provide the development platform that bridges between the Union Youth Academy and the Union professional phase (Harrisburg and Philadelphia)."
Reading's roster included four Academy alums last summer with Georgetown defender Keegan Rosenberry and forward Melvin Snoh in addition to Campbell and Madison.
In other Academy alum news, Maryland goalkeeper Zack Steffen recently traveled to Dallas with the U.S. Under-20 team for the Dallas Cup. The team finished runner up in the tournament after losing in a rematch against Argentina's Club Athletico River Plate in the final.
Steffen made two saves in the 2-0 loss, playing in his third game of the tournament. Steffen kept a clean sheet and made four saves in a 1-0 win over Mexico's UANL Tigres and made two saves in a 3-2 opening game against River Plate. He did not play in wins over Eintracht and Fluminense.
