Paid Their Dues: Mapp Makes Team of the Week

As Justin Mapp goes, so does the Montreal Impact.

Ned Dishman

Justin Mapp had an excellent match on Saturday, assisting on Montreal's first goal of the season. Mapp dribbled past three guys, before sending in a right-footed (!!!) to an unguarded Sanna Nyassi. As a result of his performance on Saturday, Justin was named to MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week. If Mapp can maintain this level of play throughout the season, he'll be instrumental to any success that Montreal might have.

Andrew Jacobson also started in Dallas's 3-2 victory over Montreal, somewhat surprisingly. Adam Moffat's injury last Thursday, allowed AJ to start in the season opener. Pareja is saying that Moffat is now ready to go, and Jacobson will likely return to the bench this weekend.

Chris Seitz started for Dallas with Raul Fernandez out due to a sports hernia. Seitz did allow two goals, but he also notched six saves. Fernandez is still listed as questionable on MLSsoccer.com's injury report, so Seitz might start again this weekend.

Jordan Harvey likely made some Union fans happy after he went 90 minutes in Vancouver's 4-1 demolition of New York. Harvey wasn't the star, though, as the 'Caps' new attacking signings ran wild. They'll have the chance to do so again this weekend, as they travel to take on Chivas USA.

Jeff Parke and Friends got blasted last weekend, as Columbus put three past them in RFK. DC wasn't expected to gel instantly, but this is a bad start. They are off this weekend, but will play Toronto at BMO Field next weekend.

Bakary Soumare and the Fire were defeated by a Chivas squad that actually has good players for once. Erick Torres, Leandro Barrera, Mauro Rosales, and Agustin Pelletieri all looked great in the 3-2 victory. Chicago's defense was poor all night, especially on CUSA's winner, when Bobby Burling absolutely SONNED Soumare.

Shea Salinas assisted on Alan Gordon's stoppage time equalizer in CCL play. Shea's ball found Gordon's head about 10 yards out, and he proceeded to nod it into the far corner. Salinas appears to be San Jose's set piece taker, and if that is the case, he'll record double-digit assists with ease. Keep an eye on him, as he might find himself at the top of the Paid Their Dues Rankings* by the end of the season. *These rankings do not exist yet.

Crisis in Colombia: After 10 games, Deportivo Cali are sitting at the bottom of the league table. Faryd Mondragon has been away on national team duty, but he is now back with the team. Cali will need him on the field, yes, but he's even more important in the locker room at this point. Cali's continental matches will make it no easier for them to pull themselves out of the cellar in their own league.

It's been awhile since we've talked here on the BrotherlyGame dot com, but I can assure you that Porfirio Lopez and Alajuelense are still killin' it in Costa Rica. They haven't lost since February, and they will head to Panama to take on Árabe Unido in the second leg of the CCL Quarterfinals. LDA held them scoreless in Costa Rica, but are going to Panama without any goals of their own. The possibility exists that Alajuelense will play San Jose if both of them advance to the semifinals. If this happens, clear your schedule immediately. I might be getting ahead of myself here, but we are looking at 180 minutes of Shea Salinas putting Porfirio Lopez on his ass. If that's not beautiful, then I don't know what is.

Gabriel Farfan went 90 minutes in Chiapas's 2-2 draw with Atlas on Saturday.

Michael Farfan was on the bench for Cruz Azul in their 1-0 loss to SKC on Wednesday. He still hasn't made his debut.

Michael Orozco only played 62 minutes in Puebla's 3-0 loss to Toluca on Friday. Orozco's club sits only one point above Veracruz, the worst team in Liga MX.

After a 1-1 draw with Uruguay on Wednesday, Santos de Guapiles are in 5th. Josue Martinez watched the last game from the bench.

La Equidad is undefeated in their last seven, but Lionard Pajoy has only played in two of those games. They should play him less.

Carlos Ruiz and Municipal were held scoreless by Comunicaciones over the weekend. They sit in the 8th spot in the Liga Nacional.

Gilberto has signed with Sacramento Republic FC of the USL PRO. Good for Gilberto! I'm still not entirely sure that exists, though.

Kai Herdling went 46 minutes in Hoffenheim's 4-0 loss to Schalke 04 (Schalke 04 won 4-0 LOL). Hoffenheim host Mainz 05 next weekend. I wonder what the score will be!

Joe Tait started for Darlington today, as they defeated Cammell Laird 3-1. Darlington are 14-2-1 in their last 17, and are now only seven points out of first place with ten games to go.
