We have many to give thanks to in our lives. Whether it is to family or to friends, there's no denying that a large portion of the good in our lives comes from those two groups. I believe the Union should be included in those two as, whether we like it or not, they are a large chunk of our lives.
They give us plenty to not be thankful for, I won't deny that, but they certainly give us plenty to be thankful for in return. Here are my things to thank the Union for:
1. Having a team to begin with
Now don't get me wrong. Being thankful for having a team at all means that I don't care about the success of said team, but I certainly don't forget that five years ago this team didn't exist.
2. Having players that represent this city with dignity
There are a handful of players on this team that represent the city I was raised in correctly. They play the game with the hustle and heart we expect out of our teams' athletes while ALSO playing with grace and talent that makes the beautiful game what it is.
3. Having to not listen to Nick Sakiewicz speak at press conferences
Who else was pumped when they heard Nicky Sak was focusing on the business end of the Union? HOW COULD YOU NOT BE?! It's great! We don't have to listen to his smug responses at every question. There is nothing I'm more thankful for.
4. Having new shiny practice fields
The real win here is not that our players will have something to actually practice on, but a win for all Union fans and employees alike. Why? Bakary Soumare can't make fun of us anymore!
5. A club with a direction
The Union have committed to a coach and his style going forward. That's nice, but it's not all. They have also made people publicly accountable for personnel decisions. They also hired a consultant named Rene Meulensteen who was a first hand witness to how one of the world's best clubs is run. I'm thankful for all the benefits I hope he brings to the club.
6. Having great people to watch every game with
I have been with The Brotherly Game for one full season now and I must say this is a terrific group of people. Although I can't make it to PPL Park for every match, I do know that when I can I will always have great people to go tailgate and catch the game with. I am very thankful for them and I am very thankful for everyone who reads this blog. You all make us like what we do here and that can't be said enough.
So what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Let us know in the comments section below!
