Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake and Jamaica's Reggae Boyz drew Martinique 1-1 in the opening round of the 2014 Caribbean Cup in Montego Bay, Jamaica last night. Vancouver Whitecaps forward Darren Mattocks scored the opening goal for Jamaica in the thirteenth minute, however Martinique equalized in the 29th minute on a Yoann Arquin goal. The Jamaica Observer put it this way:
After dominating the passing game and looking more ambitious in attack, Jamaica relaxed their defensive stance and gave up what could be considered a soft goal in the 29th minute. A floated ball into area found favour with Martinique’s Arquin, and he easily slipped the ball pass a hapless Andre Blake in goal.
Jamaica had plenty of chances after the halftime break, but were ultimately unable to take the lead. Blake wound up making two saves on the night. Luckily, the other two teams in the group - Haiti and Antigua and Barbuda - also drew, so no one has the lead in the group yet. The Reggae Boyz take on Peter Nowak's Antiguan side on Friday at 8 PM.
