Yes! The Philadelphia Union won! They beat a fairly good Eastern Conference team bound for the playoffs! Their young guns scored the goals! Aaaand it ultimately meant nothing. Despite it not helping the Union at all, despite this win not coming a couple of games ago and helping them reach the playoffs, despite all of that... a win still feels good. So let’s go with that, shall we?
It was the last at PPL
The fans were in full throat
No playoff games to play at home
So this was all she wrote
The Union took it to KC
Whose heads were caused to spin
It wouldn’t matter, but who cares
A win’s a win’s a win
Dwyer’s chance came early on
But Zac would push him wide
He had no angle for his shot
So it was glanced aside
Maidana then in twenty-nine
Just couldn’t tuck it in
It wouldn’t matter, so who cares
A win’s a win’s a win
Before the half our Brian Brown
Would score for Union blue
His goal would put the Union up
Before the whistle blew
The U were poised to win this game
A long time it had been
It wouldn’t matter, but who cares
A win’s a win’s a win
Dwyer scored in fifty-four
When Zac took down their Saad
The game was tied it seemed a win
Would take an act of God
Then rookie Pedro scored a goal
And Union fans would grin
It wouldn’t matter, but who cares
A win’s a win’s a win
The game was done, the Union won
It felt good now to cheer
The season’s had its ups and downs
It’s been a trying year
This game won’t get them anywhere
Much to our fans’ chagrin
It wouldn’t matter, but who cares
A win’s a win’s a win
