Colombian daily El Pais published an article on Colombian center back Carlos Valdes today. In the article, the daily says that Valdes "is no longer with Santa Fe" confirming that they did not pick up his option following his 2013 loan from the Union, and "was not included in their (Santa Fe's) plan for the 2014 campaign." It also says that "the Union hadn't decided about bringing back Valdes" and that the indecision, according to his agent Ricardo Pachón, stopped a deal to move Valdes to Liga MX side Monarcas Morelia. Morelia instead added Panamanian defender Felipe Baloy to their roster on December 14 to compliment Joel Huiqui at center back.
Pachón goes on to say that "Carlos wants to play... He is very interested in playing in Argentina because it is an excellent lead-in to the World Cup. Brazil is another very good option (for him to go to) and he has a great option in Colombia."
So while it remains to be seen exactly where Valdes will land for the 2014 season, it appears unlikely that it will be Santa Fe - or the Union.
