French side Sochaux officially announced the sale of Vincent Nogueira to the Philadelphia Union today via the club's official website.
Nogueira, a central midfielder often described as being in the "box to box" mold, is staying in France for Sochaux's match this weekend but will not be playing. His participation was being widely speculated about on social media over the past few day but the official announcement by Sochaux seems to have settled the matter. He will likely be joining the Union for preseason sometime late next week.
The Union has yet to release anything official about the deal our the estimated arrival of the player for training. The Union offically announced the signing
Nogueira is the third international signing for the Union this offseason and his proposed role with the team is the biggest question after the Union finally completed the signing of Maurice Edu on a season long loan. In the wake of the Edu signing, the prospect of seeing team captain Brian Carroll's minuted being curtailed seems more likely. Although Hackworth has spoken little about his tactical plans, he has repeatedly publicly backed Carroll and has given no indication that his captaincy or role on the team would change in any way, after what many would consider to be an inconsistent year for Carroll.
Chaco on his way
The Brotherly Game has been told by persons familiar with the player that Argentinian winger Cristian "Chaco" Maidana is en route to Philadelphia at the time of publishing. We expect him to be in Philadelphia sometime late this evening or early tomorrow.
