This was one of those games where you might have been better off just watching the highlight reel. No goals, no cards, and also no goals. However, after the showing that the Philadelphia Union had against New England last week, this blah game doesn’t seem so bad. A shut-out against a Montreal Impact team that scored five on them the last time they played seems all the more impressive with a shifted back line due to Amobi Okugo sitting out. Let’s see if we can scrape enough material out of this snooze-fest for a poetry recap...
The Union D was not so sturdy:
Okugo out for playing dirty
The game kicked off at seven-thirty
But never got off the ground
Neither team would score a goal
Content to battle for control
A lazy summer evening stroll
As a winner wasn’t found
Cruz decided to buck the trend
And make the Impact’s D defend
Alas his efforts were dead-ends
Although he tried to pound
Casey’s header was askew
McInerney missed one too
Blasts from Jack and then Le Toux
Petered out without a sound
Di Vaio felt his luck was cursed
When scoring in the sixty-first
The call was "offside" and reversed
His effort ran aground
Fabinho had a decent game
But Perkins, he could claim the same
He firmly stood within his frame
And saved all shots inbound
Seven games remain to play
Jack Mac needs to find his way
The Union need more three-point days
Or playoffs won’t come ‘round
