Justin Mapp had a massive game on Saturday. The inverted winger notched two assists, and was just inches away from a golazo in the 14th minute. His Montreal Impact side marched on to an astounding 5-0 win over the Houston Dynamo, bringing them to the top of the Eastern Conference with two games-in-hand on 2nd-placed New York Red Bulls.
Jordan Harvey put in a full shift for the Vancouver Whitecaps, and nearly scored a goal, too. Harvey found himself all alone as Kekuta Manneh's shot rocketed off the post, but Jaime Penedo wouldn't be beaten as he fully extended to make a RIDONKULOUS save. Brian Perk, still suffering from concussion symptoms, and Chandler Hoffman both failed to make the 18 as LA claimed a 1-0 victory at BC Place.
Shea Salinas and Andrew Jacobson both sat out with hamstring strains as the Quakes traveled to Frisco this weekend. Chris Seitz was sat on the bench as the two teams were locked at two at the game's end.
Ryan Richter and Lionard Pajoy failed to make the gameday roster as Toronto tied DC United 1-1 in RFK. Carlos Ruiz went unused on the bench.
Bakary Soumaré and Gabriel Farfan served suspensions for their respective clubs over the weekend. Baky's Chicago managed to fend off SKC, winning by a score of 1-0. Farfan's Chivas USA shocked the Red Bulls with a 3-2 victory in Carson.
Toni Ståhl and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers traveled to HOTLANTA and shut out the spring champs in their own house. Fort Lauderdale Striker Bradlee Baladez put away the winner in the 34th minute. The Strikers are now sitting on six points through four games, good enough for 4th place.
Morgan Langley played the entire game for the Harrisburg City Islanders as they suffered a first round playoff defeat to Stephen Okai's Charlotte Eagles. Greg Jordan and Jimmy McLaughlin will return to the Union as a result of HCI's 3-1 loss.
In Mexico, Michael Orozco Fiscal nodded in Puebla's lone goal as they were downed by Cruz Azul 2-1. The goal was Orozco Fiscal's second since returning to Liga MX, and his first since joining Puebla.
Porfirio López and Alajuelense lost to Puntarenas on Sunday, bringing their total of games without a win to five, in all competitions. Most fans are still supportive of their club and management, but some are starting to lose patience. LDA now sit in 10th place in the Campeonato de Invierno.
Faryd Mondragón and Deportivo Cali took on Carlos Valdes and his Santa Fe this weekend. Cali won the game 2-0, bringing them up to 2nd place, and bumping Santa Fe down to 3rd. This game was also Mondragón's first clean sheet of the Clausura.
Joe Tait sat out with an injury as Gateshead lost for the fourth time in as many games. The Tyneside club now sit in 22nd place with the same point total they had coming into opening day.
Hoffenheim drew with Freiburg 3-3 at home, increasing their Goals Scored total to 10, the best in the league. Hoffenheim are also one of only six teams that have not yet lost, but they only sit in 8th place. Kai Herdling didn't hear manager Markus Gisdol call his name on Saturday.
