Poetry Corner Kicks: Philadelphia Union 3 - 0 Columbus Crew

Three goals by Not-Jack! And poetry!

USA TODAY Sports

Greetings Philadelphia Union fans. It certainly was a great day to be one on Wednesday night. Some have argued that the Union should have walked away with even more goals than they actually did against the Columbus Crew. But after some of their recent performances, it was nice to see as lopsided a score as it was. Jack McInerney didn’t put one in the net, but that was almost good news because it meant that their three goals came from someone named Not-Jack. A nice send off to a couple of weeks away from MLS action. Now it’s on to friendly and US Open Cup games.

The Crew would storm to PPL
A win was on their minds
The Union played the part of host
Their welcome was unkind
A midweek game with lots of fans
The showing here was fair
A hometown drubbing was their hope
Their loyalty declared
The leader of the scoring charts
Shot a volley off his chest
But it was saved by Gruenebaum
Who passed this early test
But then in minute twenty-five
The Union took the lead
As Carroll shot a distance goal
It’s all that they would need
Then after four more minutes played
Sheanon got some air
He ninja kicked the second goal
And scored with awkward flair
LeToux then made a splendid cross
Which glanced off Casey’s head
It went in for the U’s third goal
To put this game to bed
The Crew were finished early on
They couldn’t muster goals
But Union lads from minute one
Found ways to take control
So now it’s off for friendly games
And Open Cups to play
Let’s hope they show this kind of form
And blow D.C. away
