Another draft pick bites the dust.

Eric Schoenle, a standout defender at West Virginia University last year, was let go by the Philadelphia Union, head coach John Hackworth told reporters on a conference call today. Drafted in the first round of the 2013 Supplemental Draft, Schoenle was expected to compete for a roster spot, but apparently fell short of that goal.

Hackworth blamed a lack of roster spots for Schoenle's addition to the preseason cut list.

Trialist Pantelis Kafes was also brought up on the call and Hackworth disclosed that the former Greek international was no longer with the club. Ryan Bright, of CSN Philly, indicated on Twitter that Hackworth had seemed to suggest it was due to Kafes' age (34).

Jordi Vidal is one of the few non-roster players left in the team's camp, along with Supplemental Draft pick Leo Fernandes. Vidal came up through Real Madrid's youth system, but was unable to break through past Real Madrid C, while Fernandes was an unheralded selection out of Stony Brook.
