Paid Their Dues: Mapp and Mwanga Go Home

Union players have little success during the first two rounds of the MLS playoffs.

Both Justin Mapp and Danny Mwanga were shutout in their midweek knockout matches. As the fifth seeds in their respective conferences, both Montreal and Colorado had to travel to their opponents' stadiums. Mapp was often a dangerous player for the Impact this year, scoring two and assisting on eight, but with reports of a coaching change his spot on the roster may be in jeopardy. Mwanga, who only scored one goal in 556 minutes this season, appears to be one of the least valued forwards on a roster that is chock-full of them. Colorado will look to rid themselves of his $171k contract this offseason.

Neither Brian Perk nor Chandler Hoffman dressed as LA beat RSL 1-0 at home. The Galaxy must now face Salt Lake at the Rio Tinto in order to keep their three-peat dreams alive.

DC United has declined options on the contracts of both Lionard Pajoy and Carlos Ruiz. Pajoy, 32, and Ruiz, 34, will now try to find new clubs in the offseason.

Toni Stahl played the first half of Fort Lauderdale's Fall Season finale. The Strikers tied FC Edmonton in Canada, giving them a total of 18 points on the season, good enough for fifth place in the NASL.

Michael Orozco featured for Puebla on Saturday as they watched their playoff hopes disappear in second half stoppage time. Abraham Carreño's 92nd minute penalty kick eliminated Orozco and Puebla from the Liga MX Playoffs.

Josue Martinez, who has played eight games with Saprissa this season, was injured in a 3-0 loss to Heredia. Martinez has logged 373 minutes and notched two goals since returning to his first club after a failed stint in MLS.

Porfirio Lopez appeared in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Herediano, and in Sunday's 2-1 win over Belén Siglo XXI. LDA now sit in third place, two points behind Martinez's Saprissa in second.

Faryd Mondragon allowed Medellín to put three past him in a road loss. Deportivo Cali will host Envigado before the playoffs begin.

Freddy Adu didn't feature in either of Bahia's losses this weekend. The northeastern Brazilian club now have just one win in their last ten games.

Kai Herdling played 78 minutes in Hoffenheim's 2-1 home loss to Munich. Tomas Müller scored the winner for the reigning champs in the 75th minute. Hoffenheim now sit in ninth place.
