Rejoice, Philadelphia Union fans: there will be only three weeknight games to deal with in the 2013 Major League Soccer regular season.
MLS and all of its teams revealed their schedules for the upcoming season and the 34-game campaign is oriented in favor of fans, at least in the case of the Union. Limited weeknight games (July 3 at Real Salt Lake, June 5 versus the Columbus Crew and May 15 versus the Los Angeles Galaxy) and a multitude of Saturday games - 18 in all - make this year's schedule the most fan friendly one in Philadelphia's franchise history.
This year's schedule was essentially created by flipping last season's home and away games, meaning that any Eastern Conference team the Union hosted twice in 2012 now gets two home games against Philadelphia in 2013. It also means that the Union will not have to travel to Los Angles, Portland or Seattle to face Chivas USA, the Galaxy, Portland Timbers or Seattle Sounders in 2013.
However, just like in 2012, the Union face a rough trip around July 4. Four games in just under two weeks start with a home game versus FC Dallas on May 29, before going to Utah for a road game at Real Salt Lake on July 3, then another away game at the Houston Dynamo on July 6, before returning home for a July 12 versus Chivas USA.
In addition, the Union will play 10 games on national television this season, although none of them will take place on NBC itself.
US Open Cup games have not yet been scheduled.
