Ugh. This one hurt. A quick thought before we hit the poetry corner kicks recap: Did it seem strange to anyone else to see someone so tall in our lineup? In case you don’t have the internet and hadn’t seen the news already, Soumaré made his debut for the Union Sunday. Incidentally, if you don’t have internet, how are you reading this? Anyway, it was weird to see such long legs running around the back line. We definitely needed the height, but still a new sight this year. On with the poetry corner kicks recap ...
FIRE 3 - Union 1
The Union started off with a lineup that was new;
Different starters wearing gold and blue.
What could be expected of this new and patchwork team?
Only time would tell (but "disaster" was the theme).
The Union started well enough, but could not keep it up.
Garfan got a header, but it was sent straight up.
It seemed the Union’s offense was on a major bender
But just when things seemed out of hand: a gift from their defender!
The DOOPs rained down with glee, and Hoffman jumped for joy.
But he had not put in the goal, ‘baba was our boy.
Not long after this, the Fire answered back.
Two quick goals would put us down, just before the half.
MacMath would try to keep the U from drowning in the game,
But two of Chi-town’s goals that came would cause our goalie shame.
Marfan had some nifty moves to get some space to shoot,
But as the post would soon attest, it went wrong off his boot.
MacMath would make some saves, as well as new Soumaré.
But these would be o’ershadowed, for Zac and for Bakary.
A four game streak of winning at the home of PPL
Was ended with an outing that just did not go well.
Is there hope against United- a team with kick and class?
Or are there already chalk outlines of the U there on the grass?
To watch the U more recently has felt like a kick in the crotch.
But if naught else we’ve got the Nats v El Tri we can watch!
