Fired Up: Philadelphia Union 3, Chicago Fire 1

Playing a team that had not lost to an Eastern Conference foe at home since 2010, the Philadelphia Union scored early and cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire.

In a display Union fans are not used to, the Union did not control the possession game, a rarity for the Union under new manager John Hackworth. The Chicago Fire took the majority of the chances in the game, however, they were frequently wasteful with the opportunities they were given, whereas in a flip of the script from the 2012 season, the Union finished their chances in a game never really in much doubt.

The Philadelphia Union took a 1-0 lead into the half thanks to a goal from Jack McInerney in the 7th minute. The Union would extend that lead 2-0 in the second half thanks to a 67th marvelous goal from Gabriel Gomez. A couple minutes later, the Fire would pull within one on a goal by Dominic Oduro. The Union would eventually put the final dagger in the Chicago Fire's chances of taking points in this game once and for all in the 87th minute.

The Philadelphia Union's next context is this coming Saturday at home against the New England Revolution.
